Cajeput Kids Family Day Care

My name is Skye and I am the operator of Cajeput Kids family day care. Along with my partner Jacob, daughter Lylah and our doggo Finn, we appreciate the opportunity to welcome new friends and families into our service.

Our family day care service is situated on Yawuru/Djugun country in old Broome and we pay respect to the Elders past, present and future for their ongoing contributions as custodians of this land on which we play, learn, grow and derive so much of what sustains our Mabu Liyan (strong spirit/positive wellbeing).

The Cajeput, Melaleuca Cajuputi, our service’s namesake, is a strong and resilient tree which can be utilised for many purposes. It has the sweet smell of honey when it’s delicate blossom flourishes, can be used as a tool for cooking, weaving, healing, creating and it provides a cool place to rest for those in and beneath it’s branches. We like to support these attributes of resilience, sweetness, creativity, generosity and pragmatism within the children in our service, sharing these contributions far into the future.

Cajeput Kids has a strong focus on outdoor and garden play, using the tools that mother nature has given us to thrive, play, learn and grow. We adopt a learning philosophy that centres around open-ended, imaginative nature play and fosters independence and autonomy of children who attend our service. We use the Early Years Learning Framework to guide our program while children are respected and always appreciated as the foremost experts on guiding their individual learning.
I am Diploma qualified and have been working in the Early Childhood Industry on and off since 2004. I hold a Working with Children Check, National Police Check and always place high importance on having current and quality first aid skills. I have worked amongst and am interested in the developmental theories of Maria Montessori and Reggio Emilio and incorporate a range of activities and practice in our service.

Cajeput kids operates four days a week Monday to Thursday 7.30am – 4.30pm. We offer nourishing meals and snacks and work with families to promote a routine and environment as comforting as home.
